The Legend of the Putter Frog - A New American Golf Classic

The Legend of the Putter Frog is the first in series of six adventures of the Putter Frog by Randy Bazemore and a little frog who dreams of becoming a great golfer. Here is what people are saying about The Legend of the Putter Frog:

“A charming tale…..made all the more whimsical with the illustrations of Warner McGee.” Paula Wallace, President of Savannah College of Art and Design.
“Inspiring…” Charleston Post & Courier.

Nominated for the SCBWI‘s Golden Kite Award for Best Picture Book Illustrations, author Randy Bazemore and illustrator Warner McGee have created magic in a golfing pond near Frogmore, SC with The Legend of the Putter Frog of Frogmore, SC. Children and adults are drawn to the stunning cover art, the uniqueness of the story and its characters, and brilliant illustrations. The story is about a little frog realizing his dreams in becoming a great golfer and creating a golf course made of lily pads on a pond. He meets up with his new caddie, Fast Freddie, and becomes a legend all around the country. It is a great gift for children of all ages.

Randy was inspired to write this story because of two statues, a frog in Frogmore, SC, and The Putter Boy statue at Pinehurst Golf Club in North Carolina. As a candidate officer for Naval Aviation in 1971, the Marine Corps Drill Instructors harassed Randy for stealing the frog statue in Frogmore. The Marine DI’s trained at Parris Island near Frogmore and knew that someone stole the frog back in 1963 from the US Post Office, because it made the “Paul Harvey News” radio show. Randy, of course, did not take the frog, which was actually returned several days later by whoever had taken it. But for 14 weeks he was “punished” as a cadet for taking it and never forgot the frog. In 2001, while visiting his future wife, Wanda Edwards, at Pinehurst Golf Club he came upon the bronze statue of The Putter Boy. He immediately told Wanda that they needed The Putter Frog of Frogmore!

“When I first talked to Warner, he emailed a few sketches of the Putter Frog and I knew I had hit a homerun. He brought my story to life. Even after seeing rough drafts nothing compares to the actual book. Warner has illustrated a lot of books and he said, this is one of the best he has seen.”

Warner is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design and has illustrated 63 children’s books, including Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, Disney, and many more.

Randy is a retired Navy Captain, Naval Aviator, graduate of Clemson University, former owner of two auto painting and collision repair businesses, a real estate company, and is currently a real estate broker with ERA Tides Realty in Charleston, SC. This is the first in a series of Putter Frog adventures. The second, The Adventures of the Putter Frog-The Putter Frog Plays the British Open, will be released in 2012. A new exciting line of Putter Frog apparel is being introduced at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida in January 2012.
